My WebQuest has changed minimally since I last blogged. The topic now covers relating real-world quadratics to their parabolic graphs -- helping students understand the utility of quadratic functions in society. When students can understand and appreciate how math is used for important functions in society (i.e. satellites, bridges, mirrors) they gain a deeper satisfaction with the knowledge that their work in class is purposeful.
In designing the WebQuest, I haven't had many frustrations, except for the compatibility issues between QuestGarden and Microsoft Word -- a few issues I still need to work out. I think the grade-level ranking is pretty pointless, since it's quantitatively objective and shouldn't necessarily be...making it fairly inaccurate. It doesn't really bother me though, I have just ignored it. Other than that, it's really amazing how teachers can collaborate by using one another's WebQuests...all available in detail online.

Webquest Topic (512)
Here are three points to the Webquest I will be doing for EDUC 512:
1. My webquest will be on Solving Quadratic Equations by Factoring.
2. The standards that will be covered include:
4.0 Students solve a quadratic equation by factoring or completing the square.
11.0 Students apply basic factoring techniques to second- and simple third-degree
polynomials. These techniques include finding a common factor for all terms
in a polynomial, recognizing the difference of two squares, and recognizing
perfect squares of binomials.
Tech: Students will
a. interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media.
b. communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats.
3. The final product will be a puzzle, consisting of factors and their quadratic counterparts, fully designed by students which will be posted to my website and completed by their peers.
